End of school special

This was for an aborted typography project. Obama looks like he's swallowed a canary.

This is a sketch from last post, colored. It illustrates the idea of families being mostly cobbled together from dead body parts, string and tar.

This is another colored sketch, illustrating the idea that crows don't like to ride the bus, but Sniz from Nickelodeon's Kablam show is pretty much ok with it.

This is an idle sketch from illustration.

Preston Blair studies

Preston Blair was an animator at Disney and MGM. Among other things, he worked on Fantasia, doing parts of the Sorceror's Apprentice and the hippo ballet.

He also wrote a series of animation books. They're a how-to on drawing cartoon characters. Over the past few days I've been working on some exercises from his 1rst book, which was published long ago but is available online at the Animation Archives: Preston Blair's Animation First Edition.

I also did some tracings of panels from The Portable Frank to study how they work and absorb the ideas into my brain. My aim is to draw funny animal characters as skillfully as the cartoonists I admired growing up.

This line of study has been inspired by JohnK's Cartoon College.

The pages I've been studying:

Ever more requests

These are some more drawings I made for the "good" *ahem* "people" um of GameFAQs. These were pencil sketches built up from basic shapes, clothed/furred, and inked. I think the last time I bothered to go through so much trouble was for my Howling Black comic, still unfinished. However, I've gotten a lot faster at it.

I enrolled in CUNY for art courses this March. I'm really excited about it!
